Fireplaces have evolved over the years. Nowadays we find different types of fireplaces, each of them according to their needs and characteristics.

We find the following types of fireplaces: wood, pellet, bioethanol and gas.

We tell you all about each of them!

Wood-burning fireplaces

These are the traditional fireplaces, “those of a lifetime”. They are currently the most sold, especially in the last year, due to the current situation of electricity and gas prices. Firewood is a renewable resource and is the most economical alternative to other heating systems.

Fireplace wood fuel

They are the most heat-generating fireplaces and have numerous advantages. Due to the Ecodesing 2022 regulation, wood-burning fireplaces and stoves have become an ally of the environment: higher performance with greater savings in wood consumption, low emissions, lower consumption, greater efficiency, more economical, etc. A fireplace, however small it may be, is capable of heating a house of several meters, even very large rooms.

Its installation is relatively simple, it should always be done by a professional and following the manufacturer’s installation advice. Here are the installation tips for Panadero fireplaces.

Their main disadvantage is that they are fireplaces that need to be very well maintained, cleaning is essential and, in addition, they cannot be neglected if you want the fire to last.

However, if you want to enjoy the real warmth, hearth and the spectacle of the flames generated by the fire, without a doubt… wood-burning fireplaces are your choice!

Gas fireplaces

Gas fireplaces are not going through their best moment. The rising price of gas has wreaked havoc on their sales. Their operation is as easy as that of a stove. Obviously, the flames of gas fireplaces are static, not “real”.

Environment with gas fireplace

Their two main advantages are that they generate neither ash residues nor smoke. The maintenance and cleaning of gas fireplaces is very simple.

The biggest problem of this type of chimneys is that their installation is much more technical and they are more expensive economically. In addition, gas fireplaces do not leave residual heat. This means that, when they are turned off, the heat disappears completely.

Pellet fireplaces

Pellet fireplaces, together with wood-burning fireplaces, are the undisputed protagonists this winter. They generate a pleasant thermal comfort, which together with the warmth of its flames, get a cozy feeling in the home.

Pellet fuel for fireplace

The main difference is the fuel they use, the pellet. The pellet is crushed and pressed wood. It is a fuel that, like firewood, is very ecological.  In addition, we can easily find them in sacks in any establishment, so it is easily accessible.

Fireplace with pellet fireplace

Its disadvantages, as in wood-burning fireplaces, is its cleaning and maintenance. They generate smoke and residues that must be cleaned frequently. The main difference with respect to wood-burning fireplaces is that pellet fireplaces also need electricity to dispense the pellets and light the flame. These fireplaces are only suitable for rooms or houses of a few meters in size.

Bioethanol fireplaces

This is the third option, together with pellet and wood-burning fireplaces, to obtain a real fire in our home.

Bioethanol is a fuel obtained from the fermentation of materials rich in carbohydrates and its combustion is clean. Its emissions are not harmful. They are fireplaces that do not require a flue, they can be purchased like any other piece of furniture in your home.

Bioethanol fireplace ambiance

Their main disadvantage is that bioethanol is a fuel that is difficult to access, as it is not easy to find. It is sold in specialized stores and, moreover, it is expensive.

A medium-sized fireplace with a capacity of about 2 liters can maintain its flames for only 5 hours, so the cost of bioethanol is an important aspect.
